A great year for pumpkin growing, lots of sun, lots of wet, more sun, more wet. Now we only need to rain gods to have a snooze so we can PYO in the dry with some sunshine! We have some monsters this year but as ever over 20 varieties of pumpkins for you to pick, from the Polar Bear to the Goosebump and even the cute Casparita and Munchkins.
Visit the Museum of Pumpkinology for more information on pumpkins, Halloween, what to do with pumpkins and more.
Over the years we have worked out what works and does not for PYO so offer the following as helpful hints.
Footwear -Wellies rather than white trainers are great. We do not have shoe covers!
Clothing- Have something to put over the lovely outfit if it gets wet or muddy.
PPPT – Post Picking Pumpkin Transport is easier in a bag, cleaner with some cardboard in your boot or more seasonal with our hessian Picking Patch sacks.
Murder Mystery Maze
Cap’n Bad Bob cordially invites you to join him, his skeleton crew and a motley collection of ghosts, ghouls, spirits and other unfortunates, who have since passed to the other side, to his infamously renowned, annual Halloween Party. The Pirate Hotel will be hosting with DJ Skellie mixing his finest tunes!
BUT all is not as “pleasant” as it seems as a guest disappears, in mysterious circumstances. We need your sleuthing skills to solve the mystery of the murdered skeleton.
“To die once is unfortunate, to die twice looks like carelessness”
Cap’n Bad Bob 2023
If the cowardly culprit is not found and jailed nobody will be safe to venture out onto the patch! Finish the maze and go to the jail to see if you got it right.
There is a Junior Sleuth’s trail or the more difficult Detectives Maze.
On arrival you will get your Sleuths Manual which contains suspects list, clues, codes and other information that may help or hinder you on your quest. Decide to work as a team with one manual or compete, in a friendly way. A pen or pencil will be useful!
Merlin the Steam Train
Torchlight PYO Pumpkins and Mystery Maze will be open on certain evenings in October.
The murder mystery maze will have a quick revamp so you can “enjoy” getting lost with only your wits and the light of your torch to help. Is it really a monster behind you or is the imagination running a little wild. Are the sinister noises coming from in front part of the murder mystery plot or are you hearing things that should not be there!
Once through and finished with the sleuthing enjoy some PYO Pumpkins, DIY photo shoots or a trip on Merlin the steam train.
